Preventing Testicular Injuries in Male Athletes

Every athlete should take special care to protect themselves from injuries sustained during athletic activities. Male athletes in particular, need to pay special attention to their safety and take special measures to protect themselves from testicular injuries. Fortunately, in moder day athletics, there is a large variety of gear and equipment available to male athletes to protect the testicles.

Testicular trauma can be determined by physical examination of the scrotum and testicles. Testicular trauma may be suspected following an especially sharp or painful blow to the scrotal region. An athlete suffering from testicular trauma is likely to experience severe scrotal pain, swelling of the scrotum, as well as nausea and vomiting.

Testicular injuries are best prevented by practicing safe behaviors and always wearing the proper safety equipment, such as a protective cup. Male athletes should always be sure to wear properly fitted protective gear to prevent testicular injuries at each and every athlete event. It only takes a second for an injury to occur, and simply taking preventative measures, such as wearing a protective cup, can help prevent pain as well as other potentially serious conditions.
